Pablo Milanés
Pablo Milanés was a Cuban singer and guitarist and one of the founding figures of the Cuban nueva trova movement.
Origins
Active from the mid-1960s until 2022, he helped found nueva trova alongside Silvio Rodríguez and Noel Nicola, drawing on the Trova, Son and other traditional Cuban styles of the early 20th century.
The sound
His music grew out of the Trova and Son traditions, a rootsy, melodic approach that set him apart from the style of his contemporary Silvio Rodríguez.
Legacy
As a pillar of nueva trova, he became one of the most influential voices in modern Cuban song.
