Skank
Skank was one of Brazil's most popular rock bands, known for blending reggae and rock with Britpop and local influences. From Belo Horizonte, they sold millions of records.
Origins
Formed in Belo Horizonte in 1991, the band initially aimed to mix dancehall with traditional Brazilian styles before evolving its sound.
The sound
Their music moved from reggae-rock toward something closer to Britpop and the local Clube da Esquina tradition, built on bright melodies and sunny energy.
Legacy
Skank sold roughly 5.2 million albums and became one of the most successful Brazilian rock bands, playing their final concert at Belo Horizonte's Mineirão in March 2023.
