Benny Moré was a Cuban singer, bandleader and songwriter renowned for his fluid tenor voice and expressivity, earning the nicknames "El Bárbaro del Ritmo" and "El Sonero Mayor."

Active from the mid-1940s until his death in 1963, he built his reputation as a master vocalist across Cuba's vibrant mid-century music scene.

He was a master of the soneo, the art of vocal improvisation in son cubano, often developing tunes through improvisation and taking part in playful controversias with other singers. Beyond son, he was a popular interpreter of guarachas, cha cha cha, mambo, son montuno and boleros.
